Can Depression be Hereditary?

It is very often said that depression is in the family genes which proves that hereditary is one of the causes of depression. There are lots of evidences which confirm that some types of depression like the bipolar disorder or manic depression do have a genetic origin. But unlike these two other types of depression are not hereditary. Since depression deals with an individual’s manner of dealing with interpersonal relationships, his behavior pattern and his particular way of thinking it can be inherited from other close family members. Sometimes depression is triggered due to a prolonged medical condition in an individual but not always. For example if an individual is suffering from severe pain then his incapability to perform the normal activities and disturbance in his sleeping patterns makes his life less enjoyable and makes him feel miserable. But this particular medical condition does not lead to depression. To have a better understanding of the connection between depression and the actual cause of depression, a close assessment of the thinking pattern linked with depression must be prepared. In this instance some people will consider pain to be a cause of depression while others will think depression to be the cause of pain. In the same way individuals can be prone towards depression if family members suffer from it but this does not promise that they will also become depressed. Thus depression is not completely hereditary.
