Does Postpartum Depression Affect Every Woman?

Postpartum depression can be defined as a type of clinical depression which can affect both man as well as woman after the birth of the child. But men are less affected by PPD. PPD affects woman in first few months after the birth of child. Some of the common symptoms experienced by PPD affected woman are as follows: swing in mood, sadness with feeling of guilt and hopelessness, fatigue feeling throughout the day, sudden crying without the reason, irritation and many others. Studies have shown that around 5-9% of the woman are affected by PPD but out of the 5 woman affected by PPD at the most one woman will need professional help. Sometimes it is believed that PPD results due to lack of vitamins but more likely cause of PPD at the time of pregnancy is hormonal variation. Hormonal imbalance occurs because of fall in the level of hormone such as estrogen, cortisol and progesterone which occurs immediately within a time of 48 hours after the delivery of child and the woman who are on the verge of developing PPD are sensitive to these changes in the hormones. One way to treat PPD is through self care at home where you can ask your family members to support you and take care of your baby.
