Guided Imagery, What is it and how does it Help Depression?
Guided imagery is just as it sounds, it is a relaxation technique that enables the mind to be used to imagine things and use the body’s natural ability of perception. This is done by mentally imagining things that will relax the body, like flowers, waterfalls and other things.
This is one way of using the mind to produce feelings of well-being and at the same time the ears, nose and other senses. Smelling the imagined flowers, hearing the water falling down the rocks into a calming pool, or hearing a warm breeze rustling through the trees are things that are relaxing. This provides the body with a natural way to reduce stress, and to relax without the use of medications to fight depression.
Not everyone is good with using their imagination, but repeated attempts will succeed, as everyone has an imagination, even if they have not used it in some time.
