How is Childhood Depression Diagnosed?

In most cases, symptoms of depression among children are misinterpreted by adults as a normal psychological or emotional transformation that commonly takes place during the growing process. Thus often children depression cases remain untreated and undiagnosed for a long period of time until the symptoms become severe. To prevent this from happening people need to keep a keen watch on their children’s action. If they notice any change in their child’s behavior or if any symptoms of depression continue for a period of two weeks then they should consult a doctor who specializes in children. Usually to treat depression in children doctors perform a mental health assessment which includes interviews with parents along with the children. Other than this other psychological evaluation is also done. The doctors also collect information about the kid from his or her teachers, classmates and friends. Based on all these various kinds of information the doctor provides appropriate treatment to the child. To diagnose depression there is no definite tests. It can only be done through psychological and medical combined questionnaires for both parents and the child and through gathering of personal information. Though depression is a serious disease it can be cured if it gets diagnosed properly at an early stage.
