Levazine is a combination medication which consists of Perphenazine and Amitriptyline. Perphenazine has the systematic name of: 2- [4- [3- (2-chloro-10H- phenothiazin-10- yl) propyl] piperazin-1-yl]ethanol. It has a molecular weight of 403.97 and its chemical formula is C21H26ClN3OS. This is an antipsychotic drug which is used in treatment of symptoms of schizophrenia and mania associated with bipolar disorder. It can also help in the treatment of agitation. Amitriptyline is 3-(10, 11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo [[a, d]] cycloheptene-5-ylidene)-N, N-dimethyl-1-propanamine. Its chemical formula is C20H23N and it has a molecular mass of 277.403 g/mol. It is used in the treatment of depression. Levazine combines the effects of Perphenazine and Amitriptyline to treat agitation, depression and symptoms of schizophrenia. Perphenazine works by blocking the action of dopamine while Amitriptyline works by increasing the levels of serotonin and norepinephrine.
