What Is Manic Depression?

Manic depression is related to the swing in the mood from very high to very low one. It is also known by the name bipolar disorder. Manic depression brings continuous changes in the mood of the person suffering from it; the working ability and the energy of the person are also affected by it. Both men as well as women are affected by manic depression disorder. The onset of manic depression can be at any age but most common time of its occurrence is late adolescence. People of all ages, races can suffer from manic depression and it also seems to have genetic link and so it can also run in the family members. Along with the person affected by it, this disease can also ruin the life of the caregivers and the immediate members of the family circle. Getting regular sleep is of primary importance for treating the bipolar disorder. If bipolar disorder becomes severe, then doctor can prescribe mood stabilizer and many times antidepressants are administered to balance the sudden changes in the mood. People suffering from manic depression also show the presence of thyroid malfunction and so it becomes necessary to monitor the thyroid function as it affects the energy and mood of the person.
