What Is the Difference between Depression and Anxiety Medication?

And the fact that is worth noting is that similar SSRI are also used in treating anxiety. Thus depression and anxiety medications can be same. Like depression, even anxiety treatment is done using antidepressants. SSRI means selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Such medications help in treating illnesses like depression, anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder and eating disorders. SSRIs act as the chemical that is present in the brain. This chemical is serotonin. It helps in regulation of sleep, handling pain and dealing with mental clarity. The causes of depression as well as anxiety are similar in the sense that, both of them are mainly because of hormonal changes or some such event in life which was difficult to handle. Benzodiazepines and antidepressants are used in treating anxiety disorders as well as depression. However, anxiety disorders can be best treated using behavioral therapy. If in a few cases where anxiety disorder is quite severe, then a combination of medications and behavior therapy can give good results. However, the symptoms on withdrawal of medications in cases of both are somewhat similar.
