Why are Thyroid Disease Patients at Risk for Depression?

The most common reason/cause of getting affected by thyroid is deficiency of iodine in the human body. Low consumption of iodine or high consumption of food like cabbage, broccoli, soy, corn or Brussels sprouts can lead to a thyroid disease. It is very important for women to know that they are at higher risk than men. Thyroid can strike at any age but there are more chances to get affected after the age of 50. The thyroid patient experiences several disorders like slow speech, dry flaky skin, decreased smell and taste, Constipation, Weight gain, Abnormal menstrual periods, and many such which at last leads to depression. A sudden change in the lifestyle because of the disorders panics the patient, makes him/her feel low or disappointed of the task he/she does. Many a times a thyroid patient also suffers from short term memory loss. This makes the person tend to forget things easily and frustrates him and at a later stage the person gets depressed by the work he/she does. In majority of the cases the person gains weight during thyroid disorder which increases the level of cholesterol and the volume of blood in the person’s body due to which performing daily chores becomes difficult putting the person into depression.
